The bed question – where will your baby sleep?

Let's be honest: There are probably few things that are more fun. As an expectant mother, we love decorating the nursery, choosing colors and furniture, arranging everything to suit our beloved baby, and even cutting out little figures for the window. We already imagine ourselves cuddling up with our little ones on the play mat and putting them contentedly into their beds in the evening, them closing their eyes with a smile and us happily sneaking out of the room to hopefully get two hours of sleep ourselves. The reality, however, is somewhat different. Because no matter how beautifully you have decorated the room and how much love you have put into it, your newborn will most likely sleep in your room or even in your bed for the first 6 months. And you know what? That's absolutely fine.

Why your baby should sleep with you at night

Many health organizations even recommend that your angel sleeps near you for the first few days. It gives you and your little one a feeling of security, and if something happens, you are right there with them. And let's be honest, we know that our newborn wants to be fed two to six times a night, regardless of whether it is breast or bottle.

It's just more convenient if you don't have to walk around the house, but just get out of bed once and get back in bed just as quickly. We do everything for our pet and we enjoy doing it, so it's perfectly fine if you allow yourself the convenience.

In the beginning, especially when we become parents for the first time, we are programmed to wake up at the slightest noise and check whether our little one is still breathing and whether their feet aren't too cold. We probably love just as much just watching our little angel sleep. And it's just practical that they sleep right next to us in a small bed.

Redesign your bedroom too

So take the opportunity to redesign your bedroom so that you and your baby feel comfortable. Try to remove disturbing noises and light so that you both get a good night's sleep.

The time will definitely come when your baby will sleep in his or her own room and bed. Until then, appreciate the convenience of not having to walk far and enjoy being close to your child during the night.
